Naming One-Time Jobs

How can I name the media for a one time job? It always seems to name the media the current date.

What version of Arcserve are you using and on what OS? It is hard to answer a general question like that because different versions of Arcserve do it different ways.

Usually, if you do not name the tape when creating a backup job the tape gets named by Arcserve. -----------------------------------------------------

On the Destination tab when defining the backup job, change the Media field from '*' to what you want the tape to be called.

Using Win2k & Arcserve 2k.
Do I need to format the media, giving it a name, then use an Append job?

As long as the tape is blank (either a new tape or one that was Quick Erase Plus'd), you should be able to change the name in the Media field as mentioned above.

If for some reason that does not work, then formatting the tape, assigning it a name, and then selecting that newly formatted tape in the Destination Tab would work as well.

While I have you on the line, I have a custom job where I have named the Media as you described in your first response.

Can I have ArcServe automatically append the date to the Media Name, the way it does on a GFS job?

Actually I'm using a wireless card, so you don't have me on the "line". And no, ARCserve does not have a way to append the date to the media name (unless there's a way with scripting which I have not done).

If you have a support contract with CA, you can request it. I'm sure that you're not the only one that would like that feature.
