Hi folks,

I need to know the name of a port on a switch when its configured in "promiscuous mode" I need to configure this type of port on a our switch for a IDS Sensor. Basically its a port on a vlan that is able to see all frames from other ports within the vlan, this way the Sensor is able to analyze all frame activity and look for various signatures. The switch I’m using is a Cisco 3548XL.

I have forgotten then name of the port, and need to know the name so I can configure the particular port. I hope this all makes sense.

Thanks StickyBit

The port is called a switch port analyzer (SPAN port) or port monitor. This port will receive a copy of every packet sent to the switch by connected nodes. This will enable the IDS Sensor to sniff the packets and look for various signatures.

Thanks anyways folks.

StickyBit.
