I just purchased a hard drive for a fiber NAM upgrade.

I popped it in, and it's working fine. It didn't come loaded with NVM manager, and I do have a built in NIC card on the main board, along with a VGA port.

I've got the NVM Installation Boot Diskette, that I upgraded the backpack CD-ROM drivers on, got that to read the CD ROM, and it looked like it took - I got an error at the end, saying 'could not open a:\startup.cmd" and didn't give me the descending tones, but upon booting and printing out the reports, can't see NVM manager installed. Any thoughts?

Thanks a bunch!

Norstar Voice Mail MAnager does not come installed on hte NAM - it is part of the NRU

I understand that - that's why I'm installing it.

Not the GUI part, I know about the desktop software.

Don't you need NVM software installed on the NAM in order to get through the NIC port and use the GUI software?

no- there is nothing extra to install...
i.e.- if you have a working NAM, NVM will be able to access it if properly configured. The software you are asking about (if it exists on the hard drive as a separate entity) is inherent to the NAM, but I don’t think it is anything you can see by filename.

Ok - I was just curious, since I have a computer setup to ping the 192.168.110.10 IP address (default) and can't get anything.

I haven't done this in a long time, is there a doc out there that explains the process of configuring the TCP/IP address - and/or checking the status of the NIC card to make sure it's working? Thanks!

it is done using NAMIP Config software
comes in 2/3 floppies - with a readme file

there was a FAQ by using the commandline of OS2

I've got the CD for the software, is there a way to create the disks? I didn't get the diskettes with the hard drive.

I'm finding the answers to my own questions. I got into the monitor package (Found my NAM II programming book) and did the TCPCFG command on the NAM. I see the IP address, still can't ping it, and need to possibly reload a new card for it (I have the recommended 3com card).

Any tips out there for that? (Docs, download PDF's, etc...) thanks again for the help.

that was the command line FAQ i was referring to ...
Just checking:
What is the IP address of of the PC you are pinging from
How is it 'connected' to the NAM - switch/hub or crossover

I set it to 192.168.110.10. I can ping itself. Can't ping my computer that is setup on a switch (isolated - only the PC and NAM are on it). The SBC board has a connection light on the NIC status too.

In the TCPCFG - it looks all set.

In the MPFT, there is only the IBM Parallel, no NIC card. I took a look at the SBC, and saw a Pulse H1102 chipset on there, which should be an Intel chip.

So I'm kinda wondering if I need to force install an Intel Driver. I don't think the IBM Parallel Driver is gunna cut the TCP/IP...

I should be in the same net/subnet

I to have an IP question on the Nortel system. I have a PC that I change the subnet to the default Nortel IP 192.168.110.10. Is there anyway to change the default IP on the Nortel system to the subnet of my network. It is a total pain to keep changing the IP on my computer just to talk to the phone system with the Norstar voicemail manager software.

to change the IP there is a boot disk that will do this.Persoanlly I prefer installing a montitor keyboard and mouse and changing this via OS2

The IP Address is on the same subnet. I put it at 192.168.110.10, 255.255.255.0.

I've used the boot disk (I found all my programs and how to use them on the CD). Still can't ping. I still see a green light on the network LED on the NAM, and a connection light on the switch.

Unfortunately there is no "ipconfig" on the OS/2. I can't ping the target PC from the NAM either.

Is that not the default address of the NAM?
Whats the IP of your PC using to program?

Have try this from the Faq forum?:
TO REASSIGN TCP/IP ADDRESS OF NAM

At Main screen:
Go to OS2/Window
At c:\ prompt type tcpcfg
At TCP/IP Configuration screen change IP address
Close window (from top left icon)
Save
At Prompt “Autostarting Mail? Enter No
At c:\ exit

Hi Aragon,
I must be missing something or my Nortel system is too old. I have on the voicemail part a ethernet port, a floppy, a printer port and two com ports as well as a fiber link. I have nothing PS2 or video to connect to my system. On the phone switch itself it has nothing but power and fiber connections. Having a boot disk is out of the question too, unless I can see what's going on. Your post is not making much sense to me as I do not have a way of connecting to the unit with a monitor. Do you use one of the com ports with a laptop and use hyperterm? If so what are the settings? Is OS2 the only OS that can do this? Can Linux, Unix or Windows? Any input would be great. Thanks in advance.

The NAM can be headed with a keyboard mouse and monitor.
There is a maintenance manual that describes the process to head the NAM. It ships on your doc CD.
The OS on the NAM is OS/2
Nortel issued a boot disk with a gui to program the IP address for NAM's with no monitor package. It works if you are desperate and have no way of heading the NAM.
If your NAM has an ethernet interface then it likely has a keyboard, mouse, and SVGA interface on the bottom of the unit.
