It might be a hardware, rather than a W2K-specific problem. I've been having a similar problem with W98, and it looks like it's down to having the processor (Athlon 1.4) running too hot. To check for this, if your motherboard has temperature monitors on it, use something like (

thanks guys. The threads that PAnderson has sent are helpful and so is to know that that Athlon 1.4 shuts down when hot(that's what I have). I thought that is simply sends a warning, which I get from time to time.
