My Documents folder redirection?

I've been using folder redirection to give roaming users the same start menu and desktop which has worked very well, the only problem is the My Documents folder refuses to redirect to a mapped drive that is specified in the users property tab. I think this is due to the policy applying before the drive is mapped.
Am i better off redirecting to a URL rather than a mapped drive?

Thanks.

Use the full UNC path (\\server\share) instead of a mapped drive letter.

Cheers i'll try it that way, then to see if i can get the appdata folder to redirect.

Hi Mike, that still doesn't seem to work all the other redirections work fine e.g Start Menu and Desktop but My Documents refuses to budge. I tried what you suggested with no joy, i also tried redirect to users home drive which is the way i want it to work.

Any suggestions as to why it wont redirect?

Thanks.

Are you using Win2k3 Small Business Server?

Nope 2003 standard it's odd as when i check the event log on the workstation it says it "failed to open recource as the user may not have permission to
\\server\users\%username%"
then below it gives a link to the folder it tried to map
eg \\server\users\dave
if i click the link it opens the folder without any problems so the user clearly has permissions.

I've tried various ways with no joy so I think I’ll have to give it up for now, if I manually change it for each user it's fine and fortunately there will only be a few users with these requirements.

Thanks.

bofhrevenge2,

I'd suggest one more thing. I'm not sure how relevant this may be but here goes:

Is the system time on both your workstations and servers sync-ed? More specifically, are all system clocks within 5 minutes of each other? If not, check if syncing them would solve this problem.

I recently upgraded a customer's domain to Win2k3, and shortly after doing so found that none of the users were receiving any drive mappings. After spending 2 days trying to figure out why the mapping were not working, I called M$. It turned out that Kerberos has some type of 5 minute rule for security purposes, and if two machines are not within 5 minutes of each other then weird stuff happens.

Hi Mike, yeh i was aware of that already after experiencing some similar problems in the past. That doesn't appear to be the problem i'm afraid.

Cheers.
