Hi

Anyone know why or indeed HOW my "My Documents" folder has been renamed to "2ji" ?
It isn't just the shortcut on the desktop either. It has been renamed in the right click contect menu etc etc, though it still appears as "My Documents" in the Documents and Settings/xxxxxxxx/ folder ?????

Thanks

Thanks, but I do know how to rename a folder. That's not the problem. It is still listed as MY DOCUMENTS in the root folder, but if I right click on a file, then go to SEND TO, then it is listed as "2ji"

Is it a registry issue ?
(I have run Norton Systemworks, which can't find any problems)

Strange (sometimes unexplained) things happen on a computer. I can only offer guesses, such as operator error, faulty shutdowns or as you have considered, malware.

You can repair the SendTo folder manually.

You could also run ChkDsk to check your drive.

If you right-click on the My Documents icon on the Desktop, and select Properties, what does it say for the Target Folder Location? You could try the Restore Default tab.

Right clicking the My Documents on the desktop brings up the target location as C:/Documents & Settings/Name/My Documents.

BUT, when I click on find target, it navigates to a folder called 2ji ??

Maybe your user profile has become corrupted?

What is the situation like in Safe Mode? Do you still have a 2ji folder?

Run the System File Checker program from the Run Box by typing.....Sfc /Scannow in it and have your XP CD handy.

Situation is the same in Safe Mode.
Have run Sfc /Scannow, which didn't return any problems
