...After my computer has been on for about 2 hrs. or so, it automatically shuts off and a green light on the front of my computer tower starts blinking. To turn the computer back on, I have to unplug the power cord from the back of the computer and then plug it back in.
Any idea what could be doing this? I changed the only power setting that I thought would work and set my power manager to "Always On." I doubt this will work so do any of you guys have suggestions?

Thanks a million,
Nate

hmmm, it could be a number of things.

First off, enter your BIOS setup and make sure the power is set to 'always on', or make sure the BIOS isn't configured to hibernate the computer after 2 hours of inactivity.

Or, make sure your operating system is free of any screen saver that are set, and disable sleep modes or standby modes that may be in effect.

Or, you may heave an overheating motherboard. I believe most computers will auto power-off if the internals are overheated. So you 'may' have a problem wil your CPU cooing fan? Check it.

OK here's the deal. I have replaced the fan since this just started happening because I believed that's what it was too. Is there a way to reset the comp. some how and tell it that a new fan is in or something like that? Thanks.

Nate

Is there sufficient cooling on your CPU? A large enough heatsink and/or fan?

You don't need to tell a PC it has a new fan - it will simply stop working if it overheats, and will continue running if its ok. Assuming that overheating is the problem... [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Try this:

Go into the Control Panel, open the Power Options icon. In the Power Options window that appears, set the 'System Standby' option to never, then click OK.

Microsoft seem to assume everyone wants their PC to fall asleep by itself after an hour or so of sitting idle.

Hope it helps! :)

Are you using USB keyboard and USB mouse?
in that case you can not come back from Stand By position to normal unless you press RESTART button. Either Switch off your standby option or have serial Keyboard or mouse
