Are you sure the speakers work?

This is a Signature and not part of the answer, it appears on every reply.

This is an Analogy so don't take it personally as some have.

Why change the engine if all you need is to change the spark plugs.

Does it show up in Device Manager as working properly under the general properties dialog for the sound device?

And, in the Sounds and Audio Devices control panel, is it shown as the default device? Not muted?

Even if nothing is audible, can you select a Windows sound scheme and hit the play button on one of the items like Exit Windows? Does it appear to play even if you can't hear it?

Check the "Mute" Fn button on the laptop keyboard? Dbl click the little speaker in Quick launch, is it muted? (This setting stays even in a reboot.)

Finally, Acewarlock had the easiest test, do the speakers work? Has the laptop been disassembled at any time and the wires possibly damaged or loose?

Have you recently loaded any other sound or video programs that may have affected the sound output?

Double check that you loaded the absolute correct driver for your model, sound device and operating system.

Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio class driver available for Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, and Window 2000

is needed before certain drivers will work properly...
