No matter what I do I keep getting this error. I'll have to post this then clip the screen shot to show you and come back. However, I have already reformatted my harddrive, removeing partitions, leaving an 80G (brand new) Samsung and a 20G Seagate in operation. The Samsung is my C: drive and my 20G is my D: drive. I was not having this error when I was on the cable modem but it started after I installed the Actiontec DSL modem. Not sure if it is related. I have a Dell Dimension L700cx and everyone at Dell is clueless (hence the reformating.) After the reformat, I was able to click on and install the java file without the blue screen (which wouldn't work before the format) and even run my VCom System Suite NetDefense firewall from my D: drive (which has an XP install all its own.) Dell did say something about this computer not being able to run two hard drives, but it was working just fine for a while. I have the max memmery at two pci cards totalling 512 RAM.

I was trying to download the Windows updates. In both installs I was able to get the Service Pak 1 and about 30 of the 70 updates before the mxdisk.sys error kicked in. Then, when I went to my download files for hardware drivers and clicked on an exe. file it did it again on the new install. I went into windows and did a repair install, but the problem still happened. (I haven't even tried to get the Windows updates.)

The other thing I have done is gone to and followed most of his suggestions for service setups in services.msc or manage folder of my computer. I had done this previously on the other hard drive and had not had any issues. I also uninstalled most of the extras that one can install from professional, though te repair no longer alloed me to get rid of outlook explorer. I use Firefox for a browser and can launch Windows Updates through an extension. It opens IE, but the last few times IE couldn't find the site. Random stuff happens like that. Firefox is working well now but just a bit ago it was timing out and then the right click wouldn't work at all.

After the Windows repair, I went back to the cd and did a chkdsk repair which found some problems. Still, mxdisk.sys bsod happened. So I ran sfc /scannow and reinstalled the IIS common files. I did a system restore to go back to the repair settings (though I killed terminal server and remote registry.) The only thing I haven't run is my VCom System Suite. When I've tried to update the anti-virus files, it says it can't find a place to put them and cancels out. (I'll have to retrieve that disk and install properly rather than running from my harddrive.) I've run adaware, spybot and spyware blaster. While typing this PCBug ran but I couldn't fix anything because I didn't have a key.

I even red something about memtest but couldn't get it to work as the directions were for Linux even though I chose the windows file. I just couldn't figure out how to get it to run. When I ran install.bat from the floppy or c:, it wouldn't recognize the c: drive; just a: or b:.

After running the sfc scannow, I was able to install those other programs to check on things. However, when I went to do the exe on any of the hardware drivers, mxdisk.sys bsod came up again.

So why is this happening and what do I do to fix it?

PS I had my motherboard replaced in the last 90 days because the printer ports weren't working. The computer is 4 years old.

Sincerely in need of a solution,

I've just rebooted and have the error information. Another odd thing happened. I went to this site originally (and signed in) on a link that mentioned mxdisk.sys. However, after a reboot I searched the same search and clicked on the same link. However, this time it could not find that thread and search didn't bring anything up. My right click wasn't working either and it seemed advance search wasn't working. then, suddenly, right click worked. After this last (one thousandth) reboot from blue screen error (brought on by trying to install a driver, though sometimes, with Windows update running and me doing nothing it would also happen) I could once again get to that other thread but right click is again not working.

So anyway, the error is mxdisk.sys page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
0x000000050 (0xF3B17000, 0x000000000, 0xF3B14A73, 0x00000000)
mxdisk.sys - Address 0xF3B14A73, F3B0D000, Date Stamp 3ee8e6c4

It's Greek to me. What about you?

It is a fairly broad error:
Requested data was not in memory. An invalid system memory address was referenced. Defective memory (including main memory, L2 RAM cache, video RAM) or incompatible software (including remote control and antivirus software) might cause this Stop message, as may other hardware problems (e.g., incorrect SCSI termination or a flawed PCI card).

In your case it is being caused by your SystemSuite software.

Some RAM testers:

In all cases you extract them to create a bootable floppy and run them from this floppy image.

Printer port problems under XP are often BIOS setup problems:
For your Windows Update issues:

. Consider skipping Service Pack 1 and going right to the Release Candidate for service pack 2:
. Use the Security Rollup to save time:

Do you think if I do a clean install of Vcom System Suite on the c: drive that this problem will go away? I haven't been using it very long but I really like it. For some reason, the Norton ystem Suite I bought didn't really work and kept having issues (maybe because I turn sevices off -- like terminal services -- or switch them to manual. Also, it was so slow and memory hoggish! I even had GoBack working for a while until I realised it kept messing with my registry and disabling most of my services.) I did have System Suite running without any issues on my old drive (D:) before I got the new one. Also, it was working fine on the new drive (from the old drive) with just the cable modem running (though I hadn't downloaded Windsows update yet). Could there be a conflict between System Suite and my new ActionTec DSL Gateway (54 Mbps Wireless)? The blue screen didn't happen until the install of this modem.

Could this issue cause the problems using my Firefox (occasional timing out and right click not functioning) and IE not being able to get to a site?

Also, do I need to have IIS Common Files installed or can I uninstall them? Could disabling any particular services or putting any particular service into manual have any of these effects? (I've installed BlackViper's System comments and read his site. On some things he is a little vague.)

Call Vcomm. I have used the suite on previous machines (prior to Vcomm purchasing the product) and liked it. As did PC Magazine in a review of Suites.

The tech guys there should be aware of the issue.

Let us know how the issue is sorting for you.
