My domain is It has a website host with a hosting company. Now I want to set up my own exchange email system for the same domain. So I think I will let my hosting company update the MX record.
However, my question is, do I need to setup any DNS on my exchange server box? Do I have to Add New Host, and New Mail Exchanger on my exchange server box?

No you dont.

Just make test, can you send/receive internal email via Exchange ?

You have SMTP and Pop3 install ?

You have all the port you need open on the firewall ?
(110 pop, 25 smtp etc,) for the Public? To you Exchange server.

Just register you MX record of the DNS (abc.com) to point to your Exchange Server. (take some time to be update everywhere...)

To make test, you can do telnet youservername.com 25 (for the smtp port, FROM ANY external machine out of your network) and check if you have answer. If it does, you should'nt have any problem.

Good luck.

LaforcE;
Thanks for your help.

Okay, so I don't have to do anything with DNS at all right?

Yes, I do have SMTP and POP3 installed.

Yes, I do have all the ports opened.

Right now my server only has IP and my MX record has not been changed to the IP for Exchagne server. Because I need to make sure it works with the IP first then change the MX record form my hosting company.

So my exchange server has this static IP: 67.64.133.30, How do I test to see if the exchange server is working properly by seding and receiving email for both internally and externally?

Once again, thanks so much for your help and time. I am counting on you for now.

By the way, I like your signature. I think you're in a right track.

Ok to check if your mail are "outgoing", just send one. From you Outlook (setup to be client of your Exchange server), send a mail on your hotmail account or wathever. You should receve the mail.

If your not receving it, at least youll get error, and you will be able to troubleshoot with that ...

But of course, if your MX record isn't registrated yet, YOU WONT BE ABLE to reply to the mail :p

BTW guyz, NERVER GIVE YOUR REAL IP ADRESSE LIKE THIS ON THE WEB. Youll get hacked!! This isn't a joke, be carefull!

And if the IP you gave me is the good one (Hope not), no, your server didnt respond to the SMTP port :(, so no, it wont work.) Check your firewall dude!

Laterz.
