A user is complaing that his message waiting indicator in not coming on even though he has a message waiting. I have checked his set up and everything thing looks ok. Any ideas?
Do a 'status station xxx' and see if the switch thinks the MWI light is lit. There is a field 'Message Waiting' that will show the source of the light (blank, spe, audix).
we use phonexpress voicemail system. The light has come on in the past, no settings have changed its just stopped working. Is there a way of testing the light without having to keep leaving numerous voicemail test messages.
Set up a FAC for : Leave Word Calling Send A Message
dial the FAC and the extension and that will turn the light on. You will also want to set up a : Leave Word Calling Cancel A Message: to turn the light off.
I have deleted the original mailbox and created a new one but that didn't solve the light issue. Does anyone know if you can make phonexpress send a test message to test the light, in that way proving that it is communicating with definity?
I would also try rebooting the VM server, then busy and release whatever boards you have that connect the vm system with the phone system.
2nd do you know if the vm server continuously sends a MWI or does it only do it once? For example if you left a message, light came on and then you cleared the light but didnt check the message the VM server thinks the light is still on, addtional messages wont light the light again since the vm system thinks its already on. Maybe?
thanks for your on-going help guys.
I am going to reboot the VM server tomorrow morning. There has been recent power failure problems to the building where the server is situated, although I am grasping at straws now!
One more thing.. We have Avaya MAS with exchange plugin. When I first got here, the MWI would sometimes work, and sometimes not. I started digging around and found out that the NIC had the power saving turned on. Which meant that unless there was an active network connection to the server, the NIC would go to sleep keeping the MWI from lighting. When I would log in with PC anywhere to see what the deal was, the MWI would come on. Took me about 2 weeks to figure that one out.
the problem does appear at the moment to be only affecting this 1 user, although it may be affecting others who have not reported it yet. Fingers crossed for the server restart tomorrow morning!
Its me back again!
Now no ones MWI is working!
We have had a power down in the building and it seems since that happened all the MWI's have stopped working.
when I leave a message in the mailbox and do status station there is nothing in the message waiting:
In the other building spe is shown when a mesage is waiting.
What can I check on the system that would explain this?
On the Audix system there is a way to force an audit of all the voice mail box's. We had to do that several times after I upgraded my PBX to get the lights to work. Especial at my other site that was DCS linked.
Looks like another reboot may be in order. Welcome to the world of windows server.
Actually, look to see if there is some sort of MWI service on the server. We have to stop and start the service sometimes on ours to make it work. (also accomplished via reboot)
