I am looking to replace a small partner site with IP Phones off my G3si version 12.0. I am looking for local 911 services. Both site are connected via T1 and have Qos ready routers. I have read here people using the Multitech gateways for this. My Avaya rep wants to either go IP office or just a couple of POTs lines for people to call 911 with. He is not recommending the multitech. This office would have 6-8 phones. What is people's opion ofhte the Multitech solution, and how hard would it be to set up if I went around my business partner and orderthe Multitech's from CDW or someone?

I looked into the MultiTech gateway for our NY office a few months ago. Yes it will allow you to us POTs lines for local 911 but that’s about it… I would highly recommend a G350. You can get a G350 and a 8300 LSP module for under 4K if you install it yourself. You must be on CM 2.X though.

MCK makes a gateway to extend up to(12) 64xx type sets to anywhere you want, but this doesn't solve the 911 issue. I had the same issue and had to totally block the 911 using a time of day chart.
An aternative solution and for short money, you could install a simple square(refurbished) Merlin Magix system at the remote site with 8 (refurbished) MLX sets. Feed it with analog extensions(as trunks) off the V12 using the Multitech. They work great, you can't even tell it's VOIP.
Then you could add a couple local pots lines for the 911 service. This also give you diversity at this location.
Because you have a V12 now, you only need the Multitech equipment on the remote(Merlin)end, again short money. Multitech units come in numerous sizes from one port to eight ports, easy to program too.
The extensions in the V12 go in as H.323..

More reasoning on this: Staff want to be able to forward calls between Sites. Be at the Partner site 3 days a week and at my G3si site 2 days a week. So the calls all need to go to a switch that direct the calls to the right location. I have plenty of capacity in my G3 plus it lets me use the same inuity voice mail for everyone hopefully. Plus it standardizes my sites with similar equipment 6400 digital phones or IP hard phones.

I have no problem the cost of the IP sets and Licenses. I just do not prefer the method of having people use an old POTS phone only for 911. They should be able to pickup any phone and get the correct 911 service address.

We use a 410-av Multitech at one of our locations with 4 4610s and one cordless. There are 2 POTS lines used for incoming call, outgoing local and 911. I like the soultion as it standardized the sight for us, provided internal calling between out locations. The -av model provides some survivablilty, nothing like a s8300lsp though. Calling Multitech support has been good (Avaya support seems hardly know what a Multitech is). 911 can be solved by using your ip-netwrk-map and ars locations.

cmeyer,
I am not to thrilled with the multitech product.
I have installed 5 of them for a customer and had to replace all of them at least once because of echo on calls.
Avaya has come out with their own boxes for this application (remote small offices), the G150 and the G250.
The host system has to be at least CM R3.0
They act as a remote gateway and have limited survivable call processing that they are capable of doing.
You can then do ARS partitioning for routing calls from those phones back over the trunks that are connected to the remote gateway (same way as the multitech's).
I have not installed or used any of them yet so I cannot speak for the quality of the box.

I am really just looking for 911 outbound at the remote site, everything else will go via the Wan back to my G3.
Avaya is very good at saying you must spend 10's of thousands for what seems to be a simple and relativly cheap solution from Multitech. I am on 2.0 right know nad to upgrade I need the Linux server and such so 3.0 is not an option right now for a remote office of 6 phones.

Yes, the multitech is appropriate for what you are wanting to do. For a single line all you need is the one port model.

OK, I have the MVP210-AV here and started to program it. I am trying to figure out the ARS routing for 911 for the remote site. It looks like I need to add a location to my switch, how do I do that? I added a IP-network-reghion and IP-Network-Map for the new site. But can not find where I would route the call.

George,

How did you get the cordless to work on the 410? I have been successful in getting a outgoing and inbound trunk working on the 410, but have not been able to get a analog station to work? looking in the "list trac ras ip-add xxx.xxx.xxx.x" I can see the station successfully being registered to the CM, but i can not make any calls on the 410AV-analog station.

Any tips on setting up the multitech for inbound trunking, outbound trunking, and analog stations (fxs)?

For inbound calls on the multitech you need to setup the "auto call" on the FXO port. Set it to the extension of the huntgroup or the station that you want that CO line to point to.

In the switch the cordless is set up H.323 in the type field. The security code is also set (I think it is the same as the extention number).

In the Multivoip configuration the interface section is FXS loop start

In the Multivoip configuration Communication Manager section the call signaling port is set to 2125 in our case, i think this has to be unique to each analog station. The gateway name, phone number/extension and security code are also filled in.
