Hi, everyone. Just wondering does anyone implemented multiple vtp domains? We are in process of upgrading our switchs to Cisco which will involve large number for switchs. As result, I would like to see if multiple VTP domain will help me on minimize the traffic of vlans database propagation. I read about VTP v.3 will help me on partition of vtp domain, but only thing I found so far is CatIOS configuration. Thank you very much.

What are you trying to minimize and how many switches are we talking . We have a large install all on same domain probably at least 100 switches and we have very few problems . You need to carefully plan where you want the root of all your vlans etc ... If you don't know how to do this would suggest you go to the cisco website and read up. The actual propagation of the database isn't really much traffic and won't affect normal data flow.

Thanks for promptly reply. We will have around 400 - 500 Cisco Cat 3500 / 3700 Switchs. Another reason why I would like to partition of vtp domain is becuase some of network had nothing to do with core network, the only purpose is access Internet. I know pruning and remove vlan from trunk can help me to remove unwanted vlan in that trunk port. But I thinking if I can partition of vtp domain would it be even better by pruning and remove vlan in the edge switch?

Thanks
