My setup:
BE 11D
Multiple remote agents (Exchange, AD, ...)
W2k3 R2
Quantum Superloader 3 LTO3

I have about 80GB of data that I backup daily to disk. I split these into 3 separate backups, one for user data, applications and Exchange. I have enough disk space for 2 days of disk backup.

The problem:
I believe I have setup the B2D folders correctly so that it will only append for 2 days before it starts to overwrite, but, only the user data is doing so (i set it for 2 backup sets but it only keeps one...arg). BE 11D is doing things differently that 10D did, in that for Exchange and my Application backups. Instead of just creating .bkf files for the backup, it creates subfolders with what looks like copies of the files in it, and it does not overwrite each day. Which quickly eats up my disk space.

What I tried:
I have purchased the Superloader 3 to act as our archive device, but after running the archive job it takes my B3D folders offline. So I have to manually go in each day and reset them to online.

What I would like:
Each day I want BE11d to backup and archive the previous day, ie Day 1: backup Monday, archive Sunday. Day 2: backup Tuesday, archive Monday. I like the speed of B2D but want the added safety of tape as well.

I would like some advise on my setup or even better options.

no one has any ideas on this topic? I'd take any input or scenario at this point.

I heard from a Symantec tech today... duplicate backups of Backup Exec IMG files (file that get created when performing a backup to disk of exchange) will not backup to tape. You must perform your Exchange backups to tape directly.

in an attempt to prove the tech wrong, I created a Duplicate backup job, included the Exchange disk backup set as well as a a few other serers and ran the job to tape. the job started to copy files ( I assume the non-exchange backups) and then about 1 hour into the job, the job locked.) I can only asssume it hit the Exchange folder.

I then created the same job and didnt include the Exchange folder and the job completed successfully.

this makes thing very difficult for me.

Did the tech ask you to create a mailbox for your backup username?

I recently spent over 3 hours with a tech trying to get my brick lvl backup to backup to tape. It had been backing up to disk fine for months, when I changed the location to tape and it started failing. One of the issues I had was not having the backup service account having a valid mailbox. I also had a corrupt file and had to upgrade to the latest build, but it has been running smoothly for over a week to my pool of tapes.
