Hello! I have quite an interesting question.

I am currently the administrator of two separate networks. Network 1 is a ADP network with a 192.168.2.x on a 255.255.255.0 subnet. Network 2 is a Windows 2000 network wiht a 10.4.66.x on a 255.255.255.0 subnet. Right now the two are separate networks. The hubs for each network are sitting side by side in the mechanical room. There is no domain controller on either network.

What I am wanting to do is join these two networks where each network can access resources from the other. (ie, printers, etc). I am installing a new Windows 2003 domain on the 192.168.2.x network. Is there a way to use this server as a network bridge and/or router so these two network can access each other's resources?

This is quite an interesting challenge. Any help would be great!

Buy a router and route the two networks together..this is better then using a Windows server as a router.

Once you have network connectivity between the two networks, you can procede with sharing resources.

-hope this helps..

Can it sucessfully be routed with 2003 server with two NICS? I cannot get them to invest the money in a solid router without proof that it will actually work.

Also, will that allow to route out to the internet also?

ok.. I installed the routing. I can see the two network and I can ping each other, but I get no connectivity, ie cannot print, cannot access telnet services, and the pc will not connect to the internet.

Here are the network stats:

W3 server DCHPing the following into to the client pc:

IP address 192.168.2.5
subnet: 255.255.255.0
Gateway: 192.168.2.144 (new w3 server)
DNS: 192.168.2.144 (new w3 server)

Actual internet gateway (to outside) 10.4.66.150

Are you able ping host in 192.168.2.x network from host in 10.4.66.x and from 10.x to 192.x? If no, then your routing not worked. And you may use tracert command from hosts in both networks for internet connectivity troubleshuting.

Yes, I am able to ping each side of the network, but that is it. tracert gives me a timeout once it gets to the server.
