Multiple email hosting on dns server 1

I have a problem which is probably simple to solve, however im not getting it:

we have two email domains ( mydomain1.co.uk, mydomain2.com), our server is a domain controller (win 2k3) setup in the domain mydomain1.co.uk. I have an Exchange 2003 server runniong on the DC, it handles all mail. i can send mail for both domains but cant recieve for mydomain2.com, i have setup mx repoints etc.

when i send from an external address i get a bounce back saying, mx records point to non existent hosts.

Can anyone help me????

the domain that doesnt work is mydomain2.com, the dc is not set up as a dc for this domain name as i only want to accept mail to my exchange server. When i try the sites faithless has mentioned (thank you) i get a response telling me that i dont have a ptr record, however as the mail server sits on mydomain1.co.uk where should the ptr record point to?

I meant, what's the real domain, so that we can check it for you!

Anyway, not having a reverse DNS record for your mail server won't stop you from receiving mail, only sending mail to servers that require reverse DNS for inccoming server connections.

If the MX record for your domain points to your mail server then mail will be sent there. It's then upto you to ensure that the server is configured to accept mail for this domain.

Well, your problem is obvious ....

jitrecruitment.com. 86400 MX 10 217.34.37.208.jitrecruitment.com

You've messed up when creating the MX record. It looks like you tried to point the domain at an IP address (which you shouldn't do anyway!) which has then had the domain tagged onto the end. So, curently your MX record points to a host that doesn't exist.

Query: 217.34.37.208.jitrecruitment.com. Query type: Any record
Recursive query: Yes Authoritative answer: No
Query time: 320 ms. Server name: n/a

The host or domain "217.34.37.208.jitrecruitment.com." does not exist

So, what you need to do is the following ..

1. Log on to your account at 123-reg.co.uk and delete that MX record.

2. Create an A record/host mail.jitrecruitment.com that points to IP address 217.34.37.208.

3. Create a new MX record and put in the host field 'mail'.

This should then show up as mail.jitrecruitment.com when you look up your domain. You should then have something like ..

jitrecruitment.com. 86400 MX 10 mail.jitrecruitment.com

mail.jitrecruitment.com IN A 217.34.37.208
