Multiple Domains - Need Help

I have 3 domains setup and have one exchange server 5.5 running on NT 4.0. I have a.com, b.com & c.com for domains with mx records pointing to one IP address that is my email server. I can get email to a user@a.com and user@b.com but not user@c.com. Mail for c.com comes to the email server and gets routed the the exchange admins email instead.

Here are the configurations that I have:

a.com has mx record to mail.a.com and the ip of the email server.
b.com has mx record to mail.b.com and the ip of the email server.
c.com has mx record to mail.c.com and the ip of the email server.

a.com is the NT's domain

I have the users email setup in the recipients email address as user@a.com, user@b.com, and user@c.com with the main reply address being set to user@a.com

I set the IMS configuration under the connections tab, email domains to have b.com deliver to a.com and have c.com deliver to a.com

I listed all 3 domains under the internet mail tab, email domains as a.com, b.com & c.com

Under the routing tab I setup a.com, b.com & c.com all as inbound.


I have checked over the net and have not found any reason at to why I can get the email to 2 of the 3 domains. What is odd is that the email for the 3rd domain is coming to the mail server then rejecting. I have checked the email recipients address to make sure that I did not have a typo. Has anyone here had a situation like this? Any help with this matter is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Michael,

Ok, first of all, you said:

That part of the IMS is for Outbound only. There's no need to have that in the config.

Then you said:

That section is for specifying MIME types and characters, also no need to add domains in there.

That aside, on the Routing tab, have you set it to allow relaying or not? Any other restrictions?

Obviously, if the mail is reaching your server, there's no problem with your MX records. What do the NDR's in the administrator mailbox say?


 
I checked the Routing tab and I have the domain names listed and set to inbound. I have tried the setting Override relay restrictions and always relay. Under the routing restrictions, I have the item Hosts & Clients that sucessfully authenticate is selected.

The email is being delivered to me as a standard email. I am set up for notifications for problems. Email that comes to me as a problem has the Mail Failure Notification in the subject line. The email sent to domain c.com is sent to me as if I am the receiver intended.


Any thoughts as to what might be causing this?

The email gets sent to you...is that because you're the Administrator? You mention the subject line, but can you open those messages and give me the NDR error?
 
Found my problem with c.com domain.

I checked the zone file again for the A record and it was listed as should be. I resubmitted the zone record again and now it works. I was getting email due to the web hosting was set up to notify the admin of a.com directly. Thanks for your input Bronto, it help me think in a different direction.
