Multiple DNS and DHCP servers

We are planning a Windows 2000 server network across 15 sites connected by 128k leased lines. We would like to make sure that each client device within each of the 15 sites is given an IP address and uses the DNS server at that site and not from one of the other sites. How can we make sure this happens if we have 15 DNS servers and 15 DHCP servers in the same domain??

Configure the DNS server address option at the scope level on each of the scopes that you configure on all the DHCP servers. You will have a sort of high administrative overhead at the beginning because you will be micromanaging a bit, but it's what's required for this scenario.

Thanks for your help - how does a client PC determine which DHCP server to use if there are 15 available. Does it use the first one it finds? And is this more than likely going to be the local one rather than a DHCP server across a WAN link on another site?

I believe it uses the local address of the router to connect to a given subnet on the DHCP server but I'm not sure --------------------------------------------------------------------

HI.

As for DHCP, the client will find and use only local DHCP server, unless you manualy configure DHCP relay.
So you should not have any problem here.

Having 15 DNS servers should also work.
I suggest using AD integrated zones, this will simplify DNS synchronization.
You can configure clients with DNS settings using DHCP options.

if you have 1 DHCP server, and 15 routers configured for DHCP relay, how does the process work to hand out an IP for the right subnet ?
I believe the DHCP relay uses it's local IP address to connect to the DHCP scope, but I'm not sure... --------------------------------------------------------------------
