I am trying to create a report that displays headcounts by company number in two groups.

Group I consist of exempt employees in a particular company with salary GE 50000.

Group II consist of exempt, non-exempt employees in a particular company with salary LT 50000.

Example:
Group 1 Salary GE 50000 Group II Salary LT 50000
XYZ 15 XYZ 50
ABC 20 ABC 100

Questions first?

1. Are you using with ADP or a stand-alone version of ReportSmith?
2. What database, Oracle or other?
3. What version of ReportSmith?

I believe writing a macro will be the best way to handle this. Good information at SRS
in User manuals (freedown load).

1. ADP ReportSmith
2. Oracle
3. Ver 3.03

I don’t know how much you have developed, but the technique I would suggest is as follows:
1. Create basic detail report with file# or SS#, salary, grouped by company.
2. Create derived fields to count for all employees, those LT 50K and those GE50K. Here’s where you will have to use macro based derived fields. Unfortunately, you can’t automatically sum “MDF”. I will address this later.(see step 5)
3. Run the report to see that this much is working.
4. Create a Group footer for Company.
5. Create a macro to summarize the macro derived fields (“MDF”) see
under index “Summerize Macro Derived Fields”
6. Delete any unwanted fields. Hide detail section.

This should get you close to what you are looking for.

If you have any question about this just ask.
