I have just installed XP and my CDR/RW (Hitachi) has multiple entries in both the system config and explorer (windows).
In others words one CDR/RW is appearing as I:,J:,K:,L:,M: etc.

I tried deleting them in the system config, but once I reboot, they reappear again.

So far, this has not cause many problems, but just irratating.

Anyone with a similar problem or have a solution???

Boot to safe mode, go to device manager, and delete all the entries...reboot, let it find it again. (with your fingers crossed)

I just realized something.
the CDR/RW is SCSI and it has recognised it as 8 devices, is it mistaking it as LUN 0-7, when I only have one device.

Note: It is a single cable SCSI card and nowhere to terminate (I think it is auto terminate).
I did not have this problem with 98 (but then I use to use the drivers with the CDROM). This time I stuck with the XP drivers.

BTW, I tried the safe mode, and it crash my system.

Sorry, I must correct .
It is a YAMAHA CRW4416S SCSI Cdrom
and LSI Logic 53C810 SCSI card (PCI).

Anyway I found a workaround. I just disabled the other 7 drives in the device manager. It works but a better method is appreciated.

No invective here, but if safe mode crashed the system I'd stay til the last dog dies or it's fixed.
Does the drive get its ID from a jumper?
JumperLESS it might choose all 8 of them?

Jumperless,

As for the dying, It just hung there when I press the delete icon on Device Manager.

After five mins I Press the rest button.

gargouille,

You're a genius.

Yes, it was Xp detecting all 8
ir was
Target ID :3 , LUN :0
Target ID :3 , LUN :1
Target ID :3 , LUN :2...

And downloaded the firmware, and pow, all gone.

You are a genuis and I am dork
Give you a star
