Hi all,

Is there an option in Veritas backup exec 9.0 where one can backup several jobs on the same tape?

Scenario here is that manager only wants to use a single tape to do a 5 day backup but not overwriting each day (creating seperate folders for each day if you like). So at the end of day 5, we need to be able to restore from any of that week's days (from a single) tape.

Thanks in advance,

Sunil

Just set the jobs to append and not allow overwrite.

Yeah, that's what I thought...

Just to confirm, will this keep the backup jobs for each day separate?

Yes, the tape will be given a header that will tell BE where each job begins/ends.

In the RESTORE tab, you will be able to see each backup job (not the tape, but the actual backup). Each line will give the date, type of backup, and tape number (for an autoloader). I'm not sure what all it provides for a single tape system. But you then select which job you want to restore, you can expand the job to restore even a specific file.

What happens when that 1 tape fills up with appended jobs. Won't his jobs fail until he manually moved that tape back to the scratch set.

Yes, but that's what Sunil5 wants. 5 days to one tape. Then after that 5th day, be able to use that tape to restore any one of those days.

If Sunil5 had said that after 5 days, we want to be able to reuse the tape, I would suggest setting the media to Overwrite protection for 5 days and Allow Append.

(BTW-be careful, not everyone is a 'he'. I don't know what gender Sunil5 is, so I use the posters name vice he/she. Especially when a poster uses a handle/nickname that is genderless. Just a thought, some people are particular about that.)

Nice one SQLBill- looks to be working a treat.

BTW- I do require to reuse the tape after 5 days but had that worked out already :)

Have a star.

P.S. I'm a male...
