Simple question from a very newbie user. How would one go about allowing multicasting between vlans? We have a catalyst 4000 and 3548 switches.

Thanks,
David.

You enable multicasting on either the layer 3 switch that conencts the VLANs or on the router that connects the two vlans. I would suggest an L3 switch.

It is what it is!!

in global mode

ip multicast-routing

then on each routed interface

ip pim sparse-dense-mode
ip cgmp

4000 will need

set cgmp enable
or cgmp enable

most 2950/2900s run igmp and have it on by default
