I am new to IP Office and this forum so I;m sorry if this has been answered already. I looked around and couldn't seems to find an answer to my question.

I was recently handed the keys to a interesting IP office system (ip406 v2 based). It is at a factory with an office building about 50 feet away. The phone, phone lines, servers and internet connection are setup in the factory, but the sales team is in the office. The issue I am having is that they would like to keep the main control unit in their factory but they have 8 computers and 8 phones in their office they need to run. The system was poorly planned and right now they have all of the cables running above ground from the factory to the office for phones and computers. I would like to get a single cable ran from the office to the factory to handle the lines and computers below ground. My first thought was to put an expansion module in the office and run the line to the ip406 in the factory, however from what I read the expansion modules need to be rather close to the control unit. The question I have is about my second idea. Can I put another ip406 or ip412 in the office and then run a data line to the main ip406 in the factory and simply make it a slave to use as a expansion module? That way everything including phone lines in stay in the factory but I can run one line to the office then split out into as many phone lines and computer data lines as the office needs.

The only other option I am thinking about is to use a amphenol 25-pair cable and a patch panel on each side to run the digital phone lines individually and then a data line into a switch for the computers. Although it would be a large cable it would at least just but one large cable running between them below ground instead of a bundle above ground.

it is certainly possible to network 2 IP office systems in the way you are suggesting.
you would require VCM modules in each system which may be difficult to source fro the IP4XX series units.

another option is to use IP handset in the office but this would again require a VCM in the main usiny

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.
Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

What type of phones? IP or Digital

If IP, Same network or Separate network from their data?

Just remember when running cable outside or underground to use a gel filled outdoor rated cable whether it be fiber or copper. Jackets on indoor cable deteriorate extremely fast in those conditions. Also don't pull only what you need, It's alot easier to pull or bury an extra cable or two now then try to add it later.

Sorry, didn't scroll down, LOL. As stated above get a Gel filled cable if burying it. A 25 pair and 2 CAT5E would be nice so you will have a back-up CAT5. Tie the 25 pair down on your choice of block (110 or 66). Install lightning protection on all pairs of 25 on both sides (Factory and Remote) and both CAT5E cables. Come off the block with an Amphenol to a DS25 lightning protection. Leave the lightning protection with a Amphenol to Amphenol. Also make sure you bond the underground 25 to a good ground. Lightning loves remote buildings....

mav2287 I have the same status "all users using IP phones"

I have two building 300Mrs between them,
I have only one IP office central,
I have two POE switches connected to each other by fiber optic cable,
which means, all users on the same network, and all users using an IP phone by regular configuration.

in case you are using Digital phones, you have to have to IP office, one in each building, or use overthebars solution.

One of the thoughts I had was to use Fiber Optic to go from the main box (ip406) to an expansion module and put the module in the office. I could then have another Fiber Optic line for my data. Any thoughts on if that would work?

You cannot do that as the module and the IPO connect on a different way then data.
They need to be next to each other connected with the blue cable and nothing else.
You really need to use 1 a cable in between the module and the phones or 2 IP phones.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!
