I am new to IP Office and this forum so I;m sorry if this has been answered already. I looked around and couldn't seems to find an answer to my question.
I was recently handed the keys to a interesting IP office system (ip406 v2 based). It is at a factory with an office building about 50 feet away. The phone, phone lines, servers and internet connection are setup in the factory, but the sales team is in the office. The issue I am having is that they would like to keep the main control unit in their factory but they have 8 computers and 8 phones in their office they need to run. The system was poorly planned and right now they have all of the cables running above ground from the factory to the office for phones and computers. I would like to get a single cable ran from the office to the factory to handle the lines and computers below ground. My first thought was to put an expansion module in the office and run the line to the ip406 in the factory, however from what I read the expansion modules need to be rather close to the control unit. The question I have is about my second idea. Can I put another ip406 or ip412 in the office and then run a data line to the main ip406 in the factory and simply make it a slave to use as a expansion module? That way everything including phone lines in stay in the factory but I can run one line to the office then split out into as many phone lines and computer data lines as the office needs.
The only other option I am thinking about is to use a amphenol 25-pair cable and a patch panel on each side to run the digital phone lines individually and then a data line into a switch for the computers. Although it would be a large cable it would at least just but one large cable running between them below ground instead of a bundle above ground.
