I need to replace this file, as it is giving me problems (errors and the like). I have downloaded a "replace open files program" (sorry can't remember it's name) from Microsoft but it did nothing, any ideas??

Thats a fine question, I don't know, but I am running out of idea's. Problems is this. Every time I start DNS services, DHCP services and Exchanges services (they may be more) I get an error reported, and this error is always this .dll, here is the error in full:

The procedure entry point ??-U@YAPAXI@Z could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCRT.dll

Any idea's??

Isn't this associated with a service pack thingy? Did you recently install a Service Pack, maybe for Exchange?

I have reinstalled SP6a for NT, but this was part of the fixing of the problems, SP for Exchange no, maybe I should??

I don't know if SP6a replaces this file. I do know that Exchange SP2 does. That would be my next step, after re-installing SP6a for NT 4.0, then reinstall SP2 (or the latest for Exchange). Don't forget to install all the security updates.

Great, I will give that a go.

Not to address the issue if you need to replace the file or not. But I would like to mention a trick I do to replace files in use.

I restart the offending computer, but don't log in. Go to a second computer and log in as Admin. Create a shortcut to the offending computer like so "//computer/c$". Then open up the shortcut and replace the offending file from the "Back Door".

This doesn't always work because the files may be in use still. I used this trick to back off a newer version of MDAC on my network. There might be a better way but this works for me.

Thanks Wadoki

I will give that a shot if the SP fails.

I have a Microsoft paper that says 4 files need to be relaced:

msvcrt.dll
msvcirt.dll
msvcrt20.dll
msvcrt40.dll

If you copy the files from another NT machine, they must be running the same service pack.

The best tool set I know comes from Winternals.com. You can boot into a command line version of NT/Win2k using modified setup diskettes. Replace files to your heart's content.
