For some time now I`ve had a niggling problem with my Msdos Prompt. Whenever I use it my `\` key does not work. (This also happens if I boot into MSDOS. Everywhere else in Windows 98 the `\` key works fine. I have a workaround by which I write Msdos commands which include \ in Notepad and then paste them into the Msdos Prompt window, which does the trick. But of course I could not do this working outside of Windows in Msdos. (I recently did a reinstall of Windows 98 using Compaq QuickRestore to see if that would fix the problem. It didn`t.) Has anybody any ideas as to cause?

Just a follow-up with more details. I`ve realized that the Msdos prompt is using a US English keyboard, whereas the only one I have listed in Windows is the British English.

Put the following into the CONFIG.SYS file:-

COUNTRY=044,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\COUNTRY.SYS

And this into the AUTOEXEC.BAT file:-

KEYB UK,,C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\KEYBOARD.SYS
