Hi:

When I had Windows 98, and wanted to execute MSDOS programs, and I had, for instance, a program in the root directory C:\, I could execute it in any directory under C:\ structure, just by putting a PATH command in the autoexec.bat.

Well, now with Windows 2000, it doesn't work, it doesn't reach the program. Moreover, instead of an autoexec.bat I have an autoexec.syd, and the PATH command is there, but doesn't work.

It is happening with dbase.exe program, which doesn't run. I thank very much if anyone could help me.

Unfortunatly windows 2000 Has very little support for 16bit applications. Even though a program worked under win98 does not mean it would work under Win2K. The best OS to use your 16bit applications is Win98. Please let us (Tek-tips members) know if the solutions we provide are helpful to you. Not only do they help you but they may help others.

The autoexec that you need to modify is winnt\system32\autoexec.nt. Both the autoexec.nt and the config.nt have a bit of "read me" information in them.

If you have administrative rights, you can also modify the "PATH" by Right clicking on My Computer, Selecting Properties, clicking the Advance Tab, clicking the Evironment button. In this window, scroll down in the lower of the two windows, and click on Path, then click on Edit. Before making any changes to the PATH information, make sure it is deselected (not highlighted). Add a semi-colon (;) and the location of the executable ... i.e., %SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;C:
Hope this helps,
Mark
