Hi, all. Thanks, in advance, for any pointers...

I have been tasked with installing MSDE on a Windows 2000 Server SP4, running IIS 5 and hosting multiple websites(multiple ip's). I don't have a clue how to configure the service to only listen on one IP yet, but have another problem right off the bat...

Approximately 10 minutes after starting the SQL service, I start getting a system alert that the local area network is unavailable, the network cabble in not connected. This is definitely not the case, and it seems to be necessary to restart the server to get the connection to be recognized again. What could possibly be killing that connection or fooling the OS into thinking it's dead and why?

Thanks again!

As to the SQL connection you can't. SQL 2000 listens on all available IP addresses.

There's nothing that SQL would be doing that would make the NIC report that the cable is unplugged.

Thanks for the reply, mrdenny. Ok on listening on all ip's.

As for the reporting of the network cable being unplugged, it only happens when the service has been running for about 10 minutes. Without this app/service running, I have never has this problem and if I stop the service and reboot without the service the problem doesn't recur. Are there any incompatabilities that you know of? I haven't seen anything in all the stuff I've read so far and it's a very simple machine setup, with hardly any apps running/installed.

Thanks!

I've never heard of any sort of incapability between SQL and a NIC driver or a NIC.

Have you tried upgrading the NIC drivers or trying another NIC?
