Thanks to a tip from the user ReddLefty I tried out MSDE Microsoft Desktop Engine for the ARCserve database. I used BAB 9.0, and ReddLefty reports it works fine with AS 2000. However BAB 11 will not let you select it.
It works just fine. The SQL DB Agent seems to work fine with it also.
I have not done a lot of testing so far but it looks good.
I am not a SQL guy so I don't know the in's and out's of it. It does not come with any utilities, but if you are running SQL server you can use them to maintain it. Also it will probably work with the command line stuff to re-index it (there is a CA doc that gives the commands to re-index).
Perhaps one of you out there can let us know if you can do a dump to disk. That way you can back it up without the need for the DB Agent.
The bottom line is that since it is a trimmed down version of MS SQL Server it should be a solid database and should handle larger amounts of data just fine. Best part it that it is FREE.
