It looks like you have something that is trying to connect to an ORACLE server and is failing.

The first one is telling you that the tnsnames.ora file isn't setup correctly for the Oracle server you are trying to connect to.

As to the second one

Thanks guys. Stopping and restarting the SQL services appears to have fixed the problem. Thanks again.

I am running into the same error. Connecting from sql server 800.760(SP3) on Windows NT - 5.0(2195). Same set up as my other server which is working correctly. Problem is, the O/S team installed the Oracle client and from the looks of things, multiple times.

Question: How do I see where SQL Server is looking for the tnsnames file? Usually it is under Oracle/network/admin.

I'd hunt down all the tnsnames.ora and start updating them one at a time until it works.

So, what is the deal with Oracle 9i client install? Does it install multiple directories with multiple tnsnames for resolution? That doesn't sound right. Also-what about this ODBC Instant client - is that a separate install?

There should only be two copies of tnsnames. One in the ADMIN folder and on in the ADMIN\SAMPLE folder.

I'm not sure about the ODBC Instance Client. You'd need to ask an Oracle person.
