Can anybody advise me on which programs are necessary in startup. This probably varies according to OS but a lot of my clients run very slow machines and it seems like an obvious first step to speed things up. Thanks!

dibeach,

For Windows ME:
Leave systray, scan registry, Load Power Profile (both),*StateMgr, your virus scanner and firewall if you have one.

For Win9x:
Leave systray, scan registry, Load Power Profile (both), your virus scanner and firewall if you have one.

Hi reghakr;

I have read that LoadPowerProfile is only neccesary for power management in laptops and not desktop PC's. Also in the System Properties, if Typical role for this computer is 'Desktop' or Network Server' LoadPowerProfile is effectively turned off. I was thinking (look out, there he goes again) that LoadPowerProfile is what turns off the hard drives and monitor after the specified time frame regardles of the 'Typical role'.

Any thoughts ???

Ed

Please let me know if the sugestion(s) I provide are helpful to you.
Sometimes your the windshield... Sometimes your the bug.

If you dont use or care about Power MAnagement then LoadPowerProfile is unneeded. As Reghakr suggested keep Anti-Virus, Systray, Scanreg for load up. ANything else can be ran when needed. James Collins
