MS Word XP - Problem opening word attacments

Hello

I have 3 users on Windows XP and Office XP platform that can not open certain Word attachments from thier email or from a link (such as our Intranet). Word reports an error and wants to recover the file.

I have run a detect and repair and renamed the normal.dot template. This has not helped. I am about to reinstall Word, Has anyone run into this before?
