I have written a large text in MS Word 2000 and will have it converted into QuarkXpress V. 4 from our layout specialists. Unfortunately, nobody knows how to transfer (or translate) the index created in word to to fit into QuarkXpress. Can someone help me out?

What I ended up doing was using my list of indexed Items, and finding them within the text. (ctrl+f), then I opened the index palette (menu:view>show index) While I have my text selected, I clicked the add all button (the bolder box with + sign).

You have to make sure that when you create a new document, that you have the automatic text box checked, or the index won't work. Also, it's best to set up the style in which you want the index displayed after you build it-building it is probably the last thing you want to do before you publish (menu: edit>preferences>index).

What was really nice, is while we were editing the book (over and over and over) whenever an item that was indexed moved to another page, the index reference did as well.

Thanks ButteWeekly

I'm not sure if you understood how I want to approach the problem. I want to make sure that an index, which was created in Word2000 gets converted to a QuarkXpress index. If I understand you correctly, you are approching the problem from within QuarkXpress. Am I wrong in that assumption?
