MS Word Forms

I recently filled out a form in Word, and I was wondering how this was done. There was a small gray box in the space for the answer, and as you typed in it, the box expanded, and would even shift down several lines. Others were size limited so that it would not shift other objects on the same line. Does anybody have any ideas?

On the Form Field Options box (on the forms toolbar this is a hand holding a piece of paper)there is a field in which you can set the maximum lenght of a field.
