Hi All,

I have a template that I want to protect the header and bookmarks but I want to allow the user to fill in the body text of the document in. I have tried using tools>protect document>forms, it protects the header but not the bookmark and you can't edit the body text.

I have also tried tools>protect document>comment and that protects the bookmarks but you change the header and can't edit the body text.

Im not sure if there is a way around this, any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

Michelle

I have tried using tools>protect document>forms, it protects the header but not the bookmark and you can't edit the body text.

Tools > Protect document > Forms locks editing (Bookmarks and HeaderFooter) in the protected sections ONLY. The key here is that Continuous Sections CAN be separated for protection, but, Continuous Sections do NOT have a separate HeaderFooter collection.

The solution is:

1. Go to the start of the Section. Say, Section 1.

2. Insert a Continuous Section break. Everything after that is now Section 2. However, because Continuous Sections do not change the headerfooter, this section retains the headerfooter from the previous section.

3. Tools > Protect document > Forms. Click the Forms button and uncheck Section 2. Leave Section 1 as checked (protected).

The result is Section 1 is protected, with headerfooter and bookmarks locked for editing. Section 2 is not, and therefore can be freely edited. Section 2 retains the headerfooter of Section 1 because it is Continuous.
