Not sure if this problem is related to spyware or not. It started with a problem which I believed to be the cable going into the network card and my husband believed it to be the network card itself. The cord had to be straight in the network card or the internet would disconnect. So my husband picks up a cheap network card and puts it in, installs it, doesn't work, removes it and puts the old one back in. Turns out it is a COMPAQ card and we have a PC clone not a COMPAQ. He also installed a new mouse and software. Since this has happened, we cannot get our internet connection back and we get MS Visual C ++ Runtime library errors for any program that normally connects to the internet (iexplore, norton antivirus, etc.) I have run Spybot and Ad-aware as I have seen this recommended. I think something got installed or changed something upon installing the wrong card. Anyone have a clue how to fix this or suggestions? BTW, I have installed Java and Java virtual machine as well.

If you're using Win 98 and the problem happened in the last 5 days, then see if doing a scanreg /restore helps.

If you're using Win XP, then try a system restore.

Note that you may have to reconnect the old mouse if the new one and its software was installed in the last few days.

Ski,

You are a life saver. We were wondering if it was a registry entry. Tried GoBack and it didn't help either. Tried to restore my own registry exports and that didn't work; however, your scanreg /restore did the trick and we now have the internet again. Yay! If I can return the favour, let me know.

Thanks!

Glad to hear that you fixed things, and thanks for posting back with the solution.
