I recieved an email internally from a colleague and all it had was a subject line. there was no msg in the body and no attachment.

Problem is when i try to open the item either by "double clicking" or "right click-open" a message appears saying "unknown error"

Even if i try to delete the msg, it says the same thing "unknown error"

Any help much appreciated.

When you try to delete the message is the preview pane enabled? If yes try deleting it with this off.

makes no difference with it on or off. Same error message.

One other thing i just noticed though. If i right click and then "Move to folder", select "deleted items". I get the error message "The item could not be deleted. It was either moved or already deleted, or access was denied."

Dont know if this extra info will help or not. i dont mind it just sitting there but would be nice to delete it

Ok i just managed to delete it.

what i did was hold down "Shift" and press "delete". Apparently that removes it straight off Outlook by without sending it the deleted items folder too.

You can delete files like this from Windows Explorer too, ofcourse its not recommended as this will not delete items into the recyle bin and therefore you might by mistake delete a file that u did not want to.

For future reference another option that usually works in these cases is to create a rule to delete the message. Then manually run the rule.
