Tried to install Office 2000 on win 98_se.Got most of they way and then received an error message and had to reboot. When I tried to start the installation once again it now gave the message "Installation ended prematurely becauce of an error" and then closes.I have deleated all temp files and ran 3 different registry cleaners and still can't get the installation to run. What must I do without reformatting to get it going?

Hi

How to get back to normal start just before the installation !

1. Start the computer and reach safe mode. (Either restart and choose DOS mode .. Or... While starting.. hold down the ctrl key till the boot menu choice appears and then choose DOS prompt boot.

2. change into windows directory..
CD\WINDOWS

3. Find the earlier registry backups available.
DIR SYSBCKUP\RB*.CAB

4. Find the nane os RBxxxx.CAB which has the date stamp just prior to your last troubled s/ware installation.

5. Now type the command..
EXTRACT sysbckup\RBxxx.CAB /E
ahere RBxxx.CAB is the chosen file in (4) above.
6. POWER DOWN and restart..

Hope this helps YOu :-) ramani :-9

mrfixall,

In Internet Explorer, go to Help>Online Support, choose the Microsoft Knowledge Base, then check the box that says specify an article ID number, then paste the article number beginning with the letter Q into the search box.

look in the office and copy the riched20.dll to your system, the try to install office again

sorry the riched20.dll is on the office cd, do a find in the cd dir. copy it to your system that should work, eve if is already on your system over write it

I would check the version or riched20.dll before overwriting it.

You don't want an older file to replace the one you have. The latest version is 5.30.23.1203 and that didn't come from an Office installation.
