Hi

I recently installed Exchange 5.5 on a Back-up domain controller running NT server, and all appeared to go well.
SO I moved all the mailboxes across from original Exchange server to new one. The new server had a faulty motherboard and on realising this I attempted to move the mailboxes back to old server prior to fixing the new one.

BUT, the new server was too unstable and I ended up changing the motherboard without being able to move mailboxes. The server is up and running now, but Exchange Directory service on the repaired server wont start, and if I attempt to force it to in the Services window, I get something like:

Error 2410: Internal NT error.

Since I cant get this to start, other exchange services wont start either (the only one that will is system attendant).

Is there a way I can either
a) get this service going, or
b) recover all the mailbox information so that I can reinstall NT/exchange server/both

Oh, in 'event viewer' the record at failure of this service to start is along the lines of
'MS Exchange directory service wouldnt start because: the process completed succefully.'

Any ideas?

Can you restore a backup? Also turn up logging on MSexchangeDS on the server. Dan
