First let me say that I am a relative novice when it comes to MS Excel and I am a Newbie to this forum.

I have a rather complicated question so please bare with me.

I am putting together a golf tour website and I need to be able to work out certain player levels and I am hoping to do this using Excel.

The formula that I am looking for will contanin lots of if's, and's and or's I think :) and it is confusing me to the point of losing my hair :)

Ok, this is what I need to do....

I have 5 levels of ability A,P,T,C and M in accending order
I have 6 scores which will give me an average figure
Each player will start with a playing level, let's say for instance T
At the end of the six games I will have that players new average score
If the players score is -5 or lower then the players level will change to C
If the players score is +5 or higher then the players level will cange to P

My spreadsheet looks something like this

Player1 T -10 +1 -8 -4 -7 -7 average -5.8 *?*

*?* should be, in this case C

Question - What is the formula I need to generate *?*

Thank you in advance

Should be easier to do a vlookup methinks.
Thought the explanation of your spreadsheet is not easy to understand, and it's certainly not your fault. It's hard for people who DO know Excel to explain a spreadsheet layout.

I'm much quicker with the file itself.
Can you send?
Feel free to save to a new file and change any confidential names or anything first...

Ray,

Anne asked me if I would help out.

I've developed a working model for you.

So I can email you the file, please email me and I'll send the file via return email.

Thank you Dale & Anne.

The formula that you came up with was exactly what I needed. I even think that I understand it :-)

If anyone would like a copy of the solution please mail me and I will send it on.

Thanks again for your time and help. I will be coming back to this site to look for any other help that I may need and I will certainly tell my friends about it.

Thanks again

Ray
