MS DTC invalid service account?

Hello,
I have Windows XP Pro. I haven't made any tweaks or changes to anything and it hasn't worked since I installed Windows. In the 4 times that I have installed Windows XP Pro in the past, I think MS DTC only worked on 1 installation, unfortunately I had to reinstall Windows for a different reason, so I lost the good installation. With that said...

In the event log I get the following message:

Type: Error
User: N/A
Source: MSDTC
Category: SVC
Event ID: 4437

"The account that the MS DTC service is running under is invalid. This can happen if the service account information has been changed using the Services snap-in in Microsoft Management Console (MMC). MS DTC service will continue to start. Please make sure that the MS DTC service account information is updated using the Component Services Explorer."

This is a big pain because I need this service. I work with ASP and rely on transactions. MS DTC isn't binding the transactions together, so if I have two transactional components and one fails, only one will roll back.

How do I fix this service? By default the service is supposed to run under the Local System account. This doesn't work. I also tried the Administrator account -- that didn't work either.
Thanks for any help,
The Insider

PS. I may cross-post this in 1 or 2 other forums. Please don't flame me.

Do you by chance run Exchange?
Try uninstalling it.
(or do you need it, too?)
SQL 6.5 also causes issues by installing an older version of MS DTC...and 6.5 client tools are not supported on XP.

For a host of suggestions...turn to groups.google.com and search for ms dtc winxp

Thanks for the response. I am not using Exchange Server, but I am using SQL Server 7 -- which may be the cause. I'll try your groups.google.com suggestion.
Thanks again,
