I appologize if this is already somewhere in this forum.

But everytime I open my database and try to edit code on any form/event/report/module etc the program produces a fatal error and attempts to repaire and backup. However both the recovered file and the backup contain the same problem. therefore my backup is gone. I think I have a stray "option explicit" in a code module of a form that got renamed. However, I cannot get to it, delete it, or any code for that matter.

Have you tried the "Compact and Repair" utility directly in Access? Hopefully this should remove the corrupt or damaged area in your database.

Just in case you don't know where the option is try this; Open MS Access directly without your database. Choose option "Tools/Database Utilities/Compact and Repair Database". Select your database and see if it solves your problem.

Failing this (I guess it will do from what you have said) try exporting the offending module without editing it. If you can save it as a text file do so, therefore you can edit it outside of Access and remove any 'problem code' ready for import again to a new module. I'm sure I've heard of a similiar problem before and it was a non-ASCII character corrupting the code.

I think after that and its still not solved the problem is beyond repair unless you consult a data recovery specialist on a high rate of pay.

Hope this helps.
