This is not a premiere question. I apologize in advance, but i couldnt find another forum that might fit. Im using Mpeg Video Wizard to encode VOB files to mpeg. Its a great little program and does a great job with little or no effort, but the mpg files it creates will not allow the viewer to fast forward to anywhere in the file. You can watch the video through in real time, the video is good, the sound is good, but you cant jump from place to place. Can anyone tell me what might be going on? or point me to somewhere i can research it..i havnt found much at the video wizard web site...

thanks

VOB files are already MPEG files, so I hope you haven't paid too much for software that changes the suffix of a file from VOB to MPG.

Sometimes, my clients give me old video and all they have are the DVD-R disks from demos and other projects -- no original video.

When my source material is a VOB file ripped from a DVD, the first thing I do is export the file as an AVI, either uncompressed or in DV format.

I then only work with the resultant AVI file.

Hope that helps!

Cheers,

I had the same problem when i just renamed the vob files. I actually use the video wizard to clip parts of the vob files and save them as mpegs.

I never thought about exporting to avi and then back again though. That might fix the problem. I couldnt figure out what "mechanism" might be involved in the fast-forward/reverse function in the mpg file..

thanks Ill try the avi back to mpg process...
