Moving objects in NetWare Administrator

I have a big issue, here. My Novell tree used to be our main container and ALL the objects underneath. I had created Organizational Units for each separate department in my company. Now I have the pleasure of moving all the users and their objects to their respective containers. The problem I'm having is the printers. I have been told to move the printers to the containers for their department, but as I moved the first set (Printer Object, Print Server, and Print Queue) it didn't seem to move nicely. I tried to move it back but now it tells me that I can't move it because it's in the process of another Move Action. Can anyone offer me any insight as to how I might solve this problem? Thanks in advance.

Moving printers can get tricky. (and queues, servers) I highly recommend removing and re-creating queues when doing migrations between versions. (I realize you're just reorganizing, but the issues still apply)

The issues involved are complicated. Were the print servers on and logged in when you attempted the move? Were there stagnant jobs or failed job fragment files in the queues? Did you have a bindery queue tied to that NDS queue?

Even if all the objects moved correctly, you would still have to reconfigure the print servers. If you're using jetadmin, it takes you through the same screens as creating from scratch, so you're not saving much time by moving.

Having complicated permissions or some kind of statistical data associated with the objects are the only good arguments for not recreating from scratch.

You changed the distinguished name when you moved the printing objects. If you have other servers with replicas it may take a little time for them to sync. Moving them back right away complicates this. It may help to use the following to force an update of the obituaries created by moving the objects.
At the console enter set dstrace=on set dstrace=+j set dstrace=*f this will process the obituaries created when the objects were moved and display the related activities on the console screens menu(alt-esc). When your thru enter
set dstrace=nodebug to reset to default dstrace parameters then enter set dstrace=off if you wish to disable dstrace.
