Moving Intranet to new server

I'm in the process of moving our intranet pages (which includes some asp pages) to a new server (NT 4.0). The new server is in the process of being set up, under a new temporary name while the old one is still on our network. We plan on getting the new one up and running, moving the files over, then, when the old server is shut off, rename the server to the old address and reapply the old IP addresses.

I guess my question is, will IIS be able to recognize the new server name once it's changed? Say if I configure IIS under the new name of 'computernew' and I test its configurations and it's working, then we shut down the old server, reapply the old IP addresses to the new and change the name, will IIS automatically recognize the changed name as 'computer' (assuming our old server was named 'computer'). If not, what will I need to do?

renaming is generally a bad idea. rather fool the server with a hosts. file that points the old name to the new machine.

another option might be to use something like GHOSTWALKER to change the name. NT leaves items in the registry that refrence the original machine name when you rename it.
