Sorry if I am in the wrong area. Alittle bio: There was a program that was installed on a server (UDS-PRO if anyone is interested) that needed a SQL database. At the time of install the server did not have SQL so the software conveniently installed MSDE. (From what I understand that is a free scaled down version of SQL). Everything is working fine but now my supervisor wants to install Full SQL and move the data from the MSDE database version to SQL. The thought was that there is another app that requires SQL and why not move the database on the MSDE version to SQL since we paid for it. I have been given the task of moving the data on the MSDE to SQL.
My question is 1)will there be a problem installing SQL on the same server as the MSDE? Do I need to unistall MSDE first or will the install have no impact on data currently using MSDE. I did not know if installing SQL would automatically find the data on the MSDE and move it over. 2)How do I move the data that is on the MSDE to SQL? Would it be best to move it from within the application (UDS-PRO) or is there a way to do an export of the data from MSDE and restore it in SQL? I am pretty sure you can see my tremendous knowledge of databases (Just kidding). I do need some help and would like some feedback if anyone has done something like this before.
Thanks
