Hi,

Our workplace currently uses Exchange 2000 in a limited capacity; we have OWA but clients all have Outlook POP3 accounts. We want to switch it so that all contacts, calendar, mail, etc are stored on server instead of being yanked down to Outlook as soon as they access their email. I have no idea of how to do this (very new to Exchange). Can anyone point me to an easy how-to for this?

BTW, we have a small company of about 30 employees. What's a good size HD storage capacity to have for 30 employees and what would you suggest for a size limit per person?

If the clients are outlook, then the mail is stored in a PST file on their workstation when connecting via pop3. With only 30 users, I would:

1. Collect the PST files, and rename them so that each pst uses the convention userid.pst.

2. Use exmerge to take the mail from the pst files and stuff it into exchange [step 2 of the 2 step process.

Hey Xmsre thanks for the tip. Did you get the second part about that, where I'm trying to determine for 30 users what would be a good sized HD to point it to? Rought estimate would be fine (mostly mail is with document attachments).

Thanks!

I would guess with 30 users, you are using the Standard version of Exchange. Its information stores are limited to 16GB - so if you've got that much space available somewhere, use it.

Space wise, 36g for store, logs, smtp virtual dir, etc. should work. Performance wise, you can figure about 1 I/O per second per concurrently connected user so a single mirror should be fine.
