moving exchange data

We've installed a new hard disk, and I've moved exchange data to the new drive. (the transaction log, system log, exchange database and the exchange streaming database)

The "M" drive that exchange created still shows as the size of the original hard drive in the box, and mailboxes still appear to be on that drive, although I can see the databases I mentioned earlier are moved.

How can I move the remaining mailboxes stored on the M drive to the new drive, or make the M drive reflect the new, larger hard drive on the box?

Are you sure Exchange created the M drive? I thought that was arcserve. If you are running arcserve you may want to check it (cos I don't run it!).

i just assumed exchange created that M: drive...what's arcserve??

There's a directory directory with our site name, which contains an "MBX" and "Public Folder" folders, both of which I need moved...

The "M: drive" is a virtual directory. that includes all of the physical drives that you have. Therefore the Exchagne databases can be spread accross multiple drives.

thanks nathan, i'm just concerned that the M drive shows a size of 8gig, the size of the c drive...and the new drive, d, is 50gig....will the M drive get bigger? how can i tell it to readjust to incorperate the new drive?

By the way Arcserve has nothing to do with this.

Also spend more time looking at what system manager tells you rather that the properties of the M: drive. The M drive is not really there.

The M drive free space and size exactly mirrors that of the C drive, that's why I'm nervous...Is there anything else I need to move aside from the datafiles I mentioned in my first post?

I'm concerned the C (or M) drive will fill up, and it won't expand to incorperate the space in the new hard disk.

Your woried that the C: drive has not got enough space and the new drive does not hold the STM and EDB files?

Ignore the M drive. and find out where your databases are, using Exchange System Manager.

You can even open up explorer and browse your Physical drives without looking at the M:

If M matches C then databases are on C drive.

M is the internal of the database. Virtual drive

In ESM goto properties of the Mailbox store and point both EDB and STM to new drive if they aren't moved already. Dan

both the stm and edb, under the server on the first storage group point to the d drive, that's why i'm so confused... is there somewhere else i need to check? should i be worried?

just a quick recap: drive c and the virtual drive show the exact same amount of free space, 3.15 gig. drive d shows 50 gig free, and the db's appear to be on d in the system manager...

i'm not in for a rude surprise 3.15 gigs from now, am i?

Drive sizes are drive sizes. M drive is fake so size doesn't matter. Dan
