I am installing a new W2K server and would like to move Exchange 2000 onto this machine.

Do I need to just do a fresh install of Exchange on the new machine with the same storage group name, then restore the priv & pub databases? If someone has some insight on this I would really appreciate it...

Thanks!!!!

Thanks, I found this article earlier, but I am not planning on keeping the same server name. Do you think this same process would work with a different server name?

I just did the same thing. I created the new exchange server and moved all the mailboxes and public folder to the new server. It was very easy except that one user has a corrupt mailbox and it won't move.

I need to move the exchange 2000 server from a cluster to a single server using the same name, will the solution mentioned first by Lander215 work with that ?

Rgds,
Lars

Fenstrat - What process did you do to move the Exchange over to the new server??? Did you keep the same server name or create a new one???

Install W2k.
Install E2k (Forest prep, Domain prep and Exchange program install. Will do this in one go if no other things specified)
install E2k SP2
Install E2k sp3
Configure E2K
Stop Email delivery to old e2k
Start migration wizard (select exchange to exchange) (it is in the Exchange program group of your start menu)
start email delivery to E2K

Migration wizard will move all mailboxes for you. Migration wizard will match users on Alias / Username. After wards everything should be in order.

You cannot use migration wizard for public folders.

Migration wizard performs the same as Exmerge. ADC is not needed if you are moving from one organization name to another. Migration wizard will take care of AD.

When using the migration feature moving from one E2K server to a new E2K server, does it automatically route the desktops Outlook to the new server???

I think you just discovered why it's common practice to use the same server name.

When I start the migration wizard it asks me what mail server I want to migrate from. I enter \\servername admin username and password but it says unable to logon, verify servername, port, accountname.

Shouldn't I be using the admin password?

Do the exchange 2000 services need to be stopped on the old exchange server?
