I'm curious what considerations need to be made when moving a Dmarc. We have a hospital with an older building that contains the Dmarc. Currently, a large bundle of cable runs under ground across the street to our switch. There a Qwest Dmarc closet that is near our old Dmarc. Qwest has given us permission to move our Dmarc into their closet. What type of pre-planning needs to be done for a move like this. I believe we are talking about a capacity of 3 T1's. Thanks for any input.

Run your feeder cable from demarc location to new location. Mount 66block on both sides of cable (1 next to demarc, 1 in new location) Punch down both sides of your cable. Label new 66 block with a note that advises tech of moved demarc. Schedule down time, and run jumpers between exisiting demarc and new 66 block. Most importantly trace everything first even if it is labeled, it does not hurt to doublecheck less headaches later. Tie new demar 66block to equip. test and go home.
Now if the existing 66block is split and does not use bridging clips, go buy some, and punch your jumpers from demarc to new 66 block down. This way the night of the cut you technially only have to work on one side of the cable and clean the other side up at your leasure.

If feasible, notify your provider regarding the timeframe and circuit ID's you will be taking down. Sometimes the local CO will shut an offending circuit down when it see's trouble. At least you will have someone at the CO to turn it back on quickly.

What about a case when the old Demarc is in a building that's being torn down?

contact the provider and get a quote.. they will set up a new demarc and swing the ckts.. it happens to be a legal requirement.. you can extend one from your side.. the other side is reulated by the good old feds and no, the demarc cops are not going to show up, but next time you get a station visit, they can turn off the ckts.. i've worked for both sides of the phone company and have moved my own, but not between buildings,, that would be an easy job for the provider but not free
